The professional driver has a responsibility concerning the load being transported. Correct loading and securement is vital for the safety of the driver and the motoring public. This requires knowledge of the cargo, cargo weight, optimum placement of the load, proper securement, and appropriate unloading.
Ruhl Forensic staff understand loading issues, not only from the perspective of custom and practice for the professional driver, but also from the perspective of the engineering dynamics of the load.
The motor carrier is required to ensure that the driver has the training, experience, skill and knowledge level to enable him to correctly and safely load and secure the cargo in compliance with pertinent regulations, standards of care and accepted practices in the industry.
Load shift or load loss can be dangerous. A driver must inspect the cargo during a pre-trip inspection, and again after the first 25 miles of travel to ensure cargo securement. Further inspections are required after driving 150 miles or 3 hours, and when the driver takes a break or has a change of duty. The driver must also carefully unload the cargo at delivery end.
